The spring season of an education project “Memory Lesson” has started. This year an alternative modern history lesson for pupils of the 10th grade of Lviv high schools will take place in March and April. The second part of a new documentary about the Ukrainian Insurgent Army will be shown to pupils in cinemas of the city. Pupils watched the first part of the documentary in autumn 2014.

The construction of the ‘Territory of Terror’ Memorial Museum Complex is in progress on Chornovola Avenue, 45, Lviv. By February 24th, 2015, with the assistance of ‘Lvivoblenerho’ and ‘Lviv Railways’, power supply and communications networks were transferred from the territory of the future museum. The intensive stage of the construction is going on.
International Day of Memory of the Holocaust Victims was commemorated on January 27th in Lviv. A round table under the title “To remember the past for the sake of the future” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of this date was organized in the Center for Urban History of Central and Eastern Europe. The main topic of discussion was how to talk about the Holocaust nowadays.
On December 11th, a piece of land where “Territory of Terror” memorial museum complex will be constructed was blessed in Lviv. According to the project, the museum will consist of four zones: “Avanzone”, “The Alley of Totalitarianism”, “Transit Prison #25” and a parking lot for visitors. The area of construction site is 805 square meters. The construction is planned to finish in 18 months.
A colloquium entitled “The strategy of topicality: how a museum becomes needed for a local community?” took place on December 4th in Lviv. During the event museum workers exchanged their experience on engaging their target audience. The discussion was organized by the State Natural Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
Former UPA soldiers give books to injured soldiers from the so-called zone of antiterrorist operation
The museum initiated the establishment of contact between former Ukrainian Insurgent Army soldiers and soldiers from the so called zone of antiterrorist operation who are being treated in Lviv hospitals. Injured soldiers will receive books, signed by former insurgent fighters, and in this way they will learn more about life of their comrades from the times of national-liberation movement of the 1940s-1950s.

The ‘Territory of Terror’ Museum Signed an Investment Contract for the Construction of a Memorial Complex of the Same Name
Today, on October 30th, the ‘Territory of Terror’ Memorial Museum, the capital construction department of the Lviv City Council and the ‘Bodex’ Manufacturing Commercial Enterprise Ltd. have signed an investment agreement for the construction of the ‘Territory of Terror’ Memorial Museum Complex of Totalitarian Regimes. All preparatory works on the building site (Chornovola Avenue, 45) will have been finished by the end of this year. The museum complex is going to be built in the course of 2015.
A premiere of the film “The Chronicles of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, 1942-1954” will take place in Lviv
A premiere of a new documentary about the Ukrainian Insurgent Army will take place in Dovzhenka cinema (Lviv, 81 Chervonoyi Kalyny Avenue) on Tuesday, October 14th, at 6 p.m. The event is dedicated to the 72rd anniversary of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. The screening is organized by the NGO “Ukrainian Galician Assembly”. The entrance is free of charge.
A celebration dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of Independence of Ukraine will take place in the People’s Home in Levandivka district (Shyroka Street, 1) on August 24th at 4 pm. A documentary “Golden September. The Chronicles of Galicia 1939-1941” will be showed within the celebration program. The event is organized by the People’s Home in Levanidvka district together with the “Territory of Terror” Memorial Museum with the assistance of the Department of Culture of Lviv City Council.
The 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen was celebrated in Lviv
In August this year, the 100th anniversary of the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen is celebrated in Ukraine. Due to this, an ecumenical requiem and the laying of flowers took place in the Yaniv cemetery in Lviv. The event took place near the Monument To Ukrainian Sich Riflemen.
The status and authority of the central executive agency was returned to the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. The decision was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on July 9th, 2014. Information about this appeared on the official web-page of the Institute.
A special event dedicated to the memory of victims of the Second World War and especially those who died in Lviv prisons in June 1941will take place on Sunday, June 22nd, at 4.30 pm in the People’s home in Zboyishcha (32 Murovana Street). Local people and guests will have a chance to learn more facts about the events that took place in the beginning of the Second World War in Western Ukraine, they will also watch a documentary “Golden September. The Chronicles of Galicia 1939-1941” and talk to historians and creators of the film.
On June 15th, the Ukrainian community honored the memory of fighters for the freedom of Ukraine that are buried in the Ukrainian military cemetery in the suburbs of Przemysl – Pykulyczi. The event was organized by the Ukrainian community of Poland together with the First Mounted Regiment of the Black Zaporizhzhans. Many people participated in the event, among them representatives of Ukrainian and Polish government, NGOs, clergy, emigrants from former Ukrainian territories that are now a part of Poland.
